As the Academic Coordinator, I was responsible for maintaining student academic support while students were in the BRYT program, a program designed to support students re-entering the high school following an extended absence. This included obtaining missed assignments, reteaching missed topics, arranging for tutoring as needed, and providing academic feedback related to credit retention and course recommendations for future semesters and/or years.

In this role, I worked in both a self-contained special needs classroom for students with behavioral diagnoses, and in a limited transition classroom for students with behavioral diagnoses. While in self-contained, I provided case management for a caseload of 9 students, and all lesson planning and execution for all academic subject areas, as well as supervising 1-2 paraeducators. In the limited transition setting, I shared case management responsibilities with a co-teacher, for a total of 18 students, planned and executed lessons in mathematics and science, and supervised 1 paraeducator.

I worked here while completing my Master's degree in Education. I created lesson plans and carried them out in eighth grade US History, as well as subsitute teaching in grades 6 through 12.

I worked here as a student, gaining experience speaking in front of large groups, presenting historical lectures, and planning hands on learning experiences. I was fortunate enough to also be able to work specifically with school and Scout groups, enabling me to get accustomed to work with school aged children. This experience also taught me to be creative and resourceful with materials to keep with in a limited budget.

I served as a tutor and mentor for students on academic probation. One student was a first year student, preparing to enter the School of Parmacy at the university, and the other was a second year student preparing to enter the School of Business. Both schools are exceptionally competitive within the university, and I am proud to say that both of my mentees were accepted into their programs, despite their difficult beginnings.

I worked as a Resident Assistant with freshman residents helping them adjust to college life. This included serving as a mentor, counselor, tutor and tour guide. I was the first point of contact for these young women seeking access to the many resources the University of Connecticut had to offer.
