Myrlys Stockdale Coleman was elected serve as Judge of the Sacramento Superior Court in 2022, and her term began in January 2023.Prior to her election, Judge Stockdale Coleman served as a Court Commissioner in Napa Superior Court and in Sacramento Superior Court.She has presided over matters involving family law, child support, domestic violence, traffic, civil harassment restraining orders as well as matters involving juvenile dependency and juvenile justice. Judge Stockdale Coleman is an adjunct professor of law and she teaches Community Property at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, and Family Law at Lincoln Law School of Sacramento. She is also a member of the Anthony M. Kennedy American Inn of Court and has served as a board member for several legal organizations.Prior to joining the bench as a Court Commissioner in 2019, Judge Stockdale Coleman practiced Family Law in Sacramento and neighboring counties. During this time, she served as a Family Law Special Master and court-appointed Minor’s Counsel. She is a Certified Family Law Specialist, Certified by the State Bar of California. In addition to volunteering for legal organizations, Judge Stockdale Coleman has been active in numerous community service organizations in Sacramento including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, and the Sacramento Children’s Fund. She volunteers as a mentor to law school students and speaks to youth groups about education and career opportunities. Judge Stockdale Coleman holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Lincoln Law School of Sacramento, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Howard University.Before becoming a judicial officer, Stockdale Coleman served as an Assistant Chief Counsel for the Department of Consumer Affairs and as a Special Assistant Inspector General with the California Office of the Inspector General. Stockdale Coleman was also the Managing Attorney and CEO of the Stockdale Law Firm, Inc, for 13 years. She is a Certified Family Law Specialist certified by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization.She is active in many community and legal organizations, including the Anthony M. Kennedy American Inn of Court, California Women Lawyers, Women Lawyers of Sacramento, the Wiley Manuel Bar Association, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a Public Service Sorority.

DCA’s Boards and Bureaus provide exams and licensing, enforcement, complaint resolution, and education for consumers.Legal Affairs Division provides legal services to DCA’s Executive staff, bureaus, programs, boards and commission. The Legal Affairs Division serves as in-house counsel for the Director, and DCA’s boards and bureaus. Its attorneys regularly attend and provide legal advice at meetings and hearings held by the DCA’s boards and bureaus. It provides legal analysis and opinions on laws, issues, and proposed legislation relevant to DCA and its boards and bureaus, including the regulatory licensing laws of the Business and Professions Code, conflict of interest laws, the rulemaking process, administrative adjudications.
