Delighted and humbled, I presently have the amazing opportunity to serve the people of the Virgin Islands as a second term elected Territorial Representative and Minister for Education & Culture.I started my career in the hospitality industry while still in high school. From that experience, upon returning home to the British Virgin Islands, I have had the opportunity to establish a thriving hospitality firm, MVW International – which operates several businesses including the Mariner Inn and Restaurant, Cafesito Restaurant, Calypso Cafe (formerly Nexus Café, Bar and Grill), Charlie’s Italian Restaurant, Ginny’s Tapas Bar and The Pub.After studying law at BPP Law School, I was called to the Bar of England and Wales and to the Bar of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court. I gained valuable experience as a public prosecutor for the Government of the Virgin Islands, before co-founding Orion Law Firm, which is now Travers Thorp Alberga Law (BVI). The firm remains a competitive entity in various areas of law including corporate and commercial law in the Territory. We also willingly donate monthly pro-bono hours to afford members of the community, an opportunity to seek justice. I had the opportunity to serve the Territory’s tourism industry as its youngest Chairman of the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board where I had the chance to look at policies and systems to better serve stakeholders in the industry and opportunities to attract more guests to the shores of the Virgin Islands. I joined the National Democratic Party and after a competitive election, won a seat as a Territorial Representative in November 2011 and again in June 2015. As a member of the Virgin Islands House of Assembly, I have served as Minister for Education and Culture spearheading numerous initiatives to reform our education system, develop cultural institutions, and empower the young people of the Virgin Islands.
