In a highly agile environment I was hired by DDN to lead a talented team of developers in an ambitious greenfield project to architect and develop a media platform capable of serving millions of songs to millions of interactive users. Building on my web services framework (ServiceStack) we we're able to rapidly develop highly scalable and re-usable web services that were consumable by all of DDN's Flash, Ajax and Native QT/C++ clients with minimal effort. As the technical architect I was responsible for the design and implementation of mflow's back-end stateless SOA software architecture utilizing best-of-class technologies to provide a fast and scalable platform capable of scaling horizontally at near zero software licensing cost. The end result was a mix of the following technologies: - Windows Server 2008 / IIS / C# - mflow's back-end software architecture is built using the productive and performant C#/.NET Framework and served on a number of load-balanced, stateless IIS app servers - Sharded PostgreSQL RDBMS - All user data is persisted amongst a number of sharded PostgreSQL instances for reliable scaling at a zero software licence cost - Redis (in-memory NoSQL datastore) - Used as a RDBMS shield by intelligently caching frequently accessed datasets in multi-tiered, in-memory data views - Efficient storage and access of mflow's 'live' datasets and User Sessions - Provides the back-end datastore powering mflow's reliable real-time HTTP comet notifications - Maintains combined, real-time, rolling service exception logs from all load balanced app servers - I'm the project lead for the leading Open source C# ServiceStack Redis Client library- Nginx HTTP Server - Using the most efficient HTTP server to serve all content media streaming and static file assets- RabbitMQ - Efficient reliable message queue broker connecting a number of loosely-coupled autonomous services forming the heart of mflows Content Ingest pipeline.
