In support of the Health Care Business Group, I partnered with internal stakeholders, clinicians, patients, and caregivers to create solutions that leverage 3M technology to improve and extend quality of life. Led projects and insight strategies focused on connecting 3M technology with customer needs. Leveraged ethnography, card sorting, focus groups, and contextual inquiry to identify opportunities and unmet needs. Facilitated workshops, concept generation, and rapid prototyping to test new ideas and applications with stakeholders. Designed graphics, produced videos, and consulted on strategic projects and plans. Delivered training seminars and presentations on topics ranging from Empathy and Insights, to Creativity and Makerspaces.

Zabel Acres is what we call our home, 11 acres of surrounding forest, and our business. We have spent the last few years experimenting with salvaged materials and laser engraving, and offer a range of products in our Etsy store. We also work on custom orders with individuals and companies. In addition to making things, we offer consulting services on a range of topics - from interior design to design thinking.

Led all Human Factors design and testing activities for a complex, highly-regulated implantable medical device development project, from pre-Business Analysis to Development Review phases. This system has been fully approved and commercialized as the Reveal LINQ system. I managed and executed all level of Human Factors Engineering, including Discovery Research, Design, Usability Testing, Design Specification, and Validation Testing.

Managed and executed all levels of Human Factors and Design Research activities. This included ethnography, usability testing. market research, task analysis, ideation workshops, and competitive benchmarking. Projects ranged from ATV accessories to juvenile products to commercial equipment. Shortly after I left Visualize, the company changed names to Red Fusion Studios.

While at Brooks Stevens I led the charge in building a formal Research and Human Factors discipline within a well respected 75 year old Industrial Design firm. I also helped build and grow a satellite office in St Paul, MN, doubling in size in one year. My role within the company was to educate colleagues and clients, support business development with new and existing clients, write proposals, estimate budgets, craft methodology, execute research, and present results. I also developed a new and effective methodology for conducting multidisciplinary idea generation workshops - weaving together aspects of traditional brainstorming and creative problem solving, while leveraging the talents of clients and colleagues. Most of all, I had a great time working with smart people on both sides of the relationship.
