Over the last 15 years my experience has crossed venture capital, a media platform, and multiple successful early stage startups.I have a particular passion for the most overlooked yet obvious global opportunity, Aging. The shift from pyramidal to columnar populations is fundamentally breaking every system and support we have in place for older adults. There are gigantic rewards, both humanitarian and financial, for whomever can help fix them.In addition to running my own venture fund, I also run a newsletter and media platform called Agetech News. When I first dove into Agetech nearly a decade ago, funding was sparse and information about financings and M&A activity hard to find. I started aggregating and summarizing this news for myself to stay on top of the industry, then I started sharing it with my investor network to encourage more investment in the field. Five years later the newsletter counts over 7.5k subscribers and has expanded into a full media platform.Before all this, I spent the first part of my career operating early-stage mobile startups. Unlike most of my peers I felt lucky to graduate from Stanford in 2009. Apple had just started opening up the app store to third party developers and mobile computing was starting to rise - friends and TAs were dropping out of school to start companies, raising millions on the simplest of prototypes. Recognizing the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be on the ground floor of a computing revolution I rejected the job offer my degree in bioinformatics had prepared me for at EHR giant Epic. Instead I dove headfirst into the world of early-stage mobile startups, starting as an early engineer, then lead engineer, CTO, and co-founder.My operating experience not only taught me a lot about what to look for in early-stage companies and what good (or bad) investors do, but also the immense opportunity in software infrastructure plays. Amazon's second billion-dollar business, AWS, had brought down the cost to start a company by an order of magnitude, and startups serving those new businesses like Stripe and Shopify have cleaned up. This was a major influence in a recent and exciting investment into Bask Health, the "Shopify for DTC Telemedicine Brands".While I continue to source new investments into all things aging for Third Act Ventures' Fund II, I've recently been diving deeper into new opportunities surrounding wealth transfer and the enablement of value-based care.
