Michael Zhang is Principal of Zenith IP LLC, a patent transactions business. Zenith IP LLC is focused on acquiring infringed patents to help patent owners license their technologies. With over 15 years of experience, Mr Zhang is responsible for initiating and negotiating patent acquisitions, patent licenses, strategic partnerships and joint ventures. Prior to starting Zenith IP LLC, Mr Zhang originated and led the acquisitions of patent portfolios related to AI, consumer electronics, storage, semiconductor, medical and software technologies at WiLAN Inc. Some notable portfolio acquisitions include:-the portfolio licensed to create the company Siri Inc, which was acquired by Apple in 2010-a worldwide portfolio of medical device patents from a global orthopedic hospital-a portfolio related to microscopy from a top research institute-worldwide portfolios related to semiconductor manufacturing process technologies from IBM-a worldwide portfolio related to memory and semiconductor manufacturing process technologies from a leading public Fortune 500 company-a worldwide portfolio related to wired connectivity such as USB-C from a leading public semiconductor companySince 2017, Mr Zhang has been named every year by Intellectual Asset Management magazine (IAM) to their Strategy 300 list - an extensively researched list that identifies the world's leading IP strategists with exceptional skill sets and insight into development, creation, and management of IP value.Over his career, Mr Zhang has successfully negotiated over 45 acquisition and partnership agreements. These portfolios have generated over $100 million in licensing revenue to date, with many licensing activities ongoing. In May 2024, IPA Technologies (the entity created to license the Siri portfolio) won a trial verdict of $242 million against Microsoft where Mr Zhang served as testifying witness.
