My specific areas were working with the team developing what will become the largest ever lithium ion battery pack to fly to the international space station. Projects I was most involved with included developing LabView programs and circuit boards to interface and test the battery management system components. Among the most significant of the projects was testing the thermal transfer model in the battery pack to ensure that the battery pack will operate in safe thermal conditions such that the team would know what the overall temperature of the cells would be to reduce the likelihood of a battery cell rupture or thermal run-away conditions (such a scenario would cause a emergency evacuation of the space station).
