• Imputed cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) metabolite expression levels from 500 healthy controls into GWAS results for 11 brain disorders. Identified 13 significant metabolite-trait associations for autism, bipolar, and schizophrenia, implicating these metabolites as new biomarkers for disease.• Learned and used R and Bash code to implement GWAS/TWAS methodology and visualize/present findings to the lab.• Recipient of Research Excellence and Top Presentation awards.

MEDICALI worked in a local hospital, assisting each department while simultaneously examining its strengths and growth potential. In addition, I practiced and gained knowledge in a wide range of medical fields, including surgical shadowing, chiropractic (basic relief and traditional Andean techniques), dentistry (mixing tooth fillings, completing dental charts), pharmaceuticals, and emergency care. Much of this experience was gained through participation in medical caravans to surrounding rural communities, treating basic ophthalmological and dental ailments, distribute prescription glasses, and conducting interview-based research in Spanish.SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURIALAfter spending time interviewing department heads and observing the hospital's functioning, I designed two departmental prototypes using SWOT analyses, logic models, financial projections, and other relevant techniques, each over the course of a month. The first is a grassroots community outreach program, with the goal of actively reaching out to the families we serve to include their voices in policy making and action. The second is a mental and interpersonal health service targeted specifically toward victims of gender-based/domestic violence, a tragically prevalent and underserved issue in the area.

I collaborated with the team at Fundación EnseñARTE to enhance and implement a music curriculum for impoverished/disadvantaged youth (aged 6-17), engaging and facilitating development of their self-esteem, emotion-processing, and self-expression, while teaching the values of work, commitment, and teamwork. This involved teaching instrument lessons and music theory, facilitating group performance, holding workshops, and individually assisting children in writing lyrics, developing beats, and composing.Additionally, I arranged, recorded, and produced (using Logic) the entirety of the children’s music in an album, “Musica Para Todos.” Proceeds funded expansion of the music program.

I primarily contributed to a long-term study of the effect of music on children’s brain development. Through various research projects, I explored music’s physiological effects on the body and the structure/function of the brain, and determined how that information could help others. I formulated hypotheses, analyzed data, conducted studies involving fMRI and behavioral research, and ultimately completed a research study entitled "Why are specific personalities drawn to specific genres of music?"
