The Great Mind in STEM (GMiS) College Bowl is an interactive event designed to showcase students’ creativity, motivation and team building talents and to provide key professional and leadership development training while creating a competitive forum through various rounds of competitions.This year, the intensive 4-day College Bowl was held virtually with nationwide students and professional participants gathered and were arranged in teams to work on 4 different projects that were dues the next 22 hours after those were released. Coaches and judges from NASA, Airforce STEM, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, Boeing, Shell, and Cummins worked with students from each team toward generating the products according to projects.My second team, Northrop Grumman Alpha, has won the third place in the second round.

This 12-week session provides the participants direct experience and insight into the mission development skills via weekly training from NASA scientists & engineers, and consistent collaborating with teammates to design a team project. STEM students nationwide gathered and got assigned to teams of 12 in order to generate a Preliminary Design Preview (PDR) of a lander mission concept targeting the Tiger Stripe region on Saturn’s Moon Enceladus to fulfil a science investigation the team plans to conduct. PDR document describes the science objectives, experiments, spacecraft design, and payload by following the PDR Outline provided.- Chose a desired landing site to investigate in the southern hemisphere of Enceladus.- Identified the science objectives and success criteria aligning with the mission.- Designed a payload that will be appropriate to succeed in the planned science acquisition. - Developed a lander design that fitted in these constraints: up to $400 millions of budget, 77 kg (170 lbs) in mass, which encompasses all components including EDL and payload, and a 51cm X 51cm X 76cm (20in x 20in x 30in) in volume of the stowed configuration.- Applied the knowledge of NX Siemens CAD, Organizational Chart, Gantt chart, Budgeting, System engineering requirements, risk analysis, functional analysis, and space craft analysis to demonstrates that the overall program preliminary design meets all design requirements, is within cost and schedule constraints, and satisfies the customer.- Presented as a team in a video of ~10 minutes (link provided).

STEM students from all parts of the nation gather and get assigned to teams of 12. The expected outcomes are to generate 4 quad charts and one full 7-page proposal. - Identified a NASA pain point aligning with the solicitation and the overall goal of landing on the Moon 2024.- Engaged with Subject Matter Experts to mature the concept. - Worked with the team of 12 to propose a detailed solution on using Ferrofluid to transfer heat and maintain habitable temperature for the crew.- Wrote a 7-page proposal including detailed Gantt chart, risk assessment, Key Performance Parameter, and 3D design.- Participated in a 3-hour reviewing session to evaluate 3 other proposals and learned how the reviewing process normally runs; the session was led by Chief Technology - John Dankanich - and other session leaders at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center.

One of eight community college students selected to participate in a paid fellowship at The Base 11-UC Irvine Summer Fellowship Program. The program leverages The Henry Samueli School of Engineering’s facilities and participating faculty for a 6-week autonomous systems engineering course composed of various lecture topics, lab work, and presentation by guest lecturers. The program includes activities to cultivate a sense of community among Base 11 cohort, planning and preparation for transfer to a 4-year institution, and career and professional development. Topics include:• Learned and practiced using Computer Aid Designing (CAD) software through various models, then self-designed a personal project. Program used: Onshape and NX Siemens.• Learned Python computer programming language and applied it to a specific application - Raspberry Pi board.• Assembled the 4WD Smart Pi Car and developed the Python code for various purposes, including manipulating the motor movement, direction, collision avoidance, object recognition, self-parking programs.• Showcased the personal projects created during the entire fellowship through a presentation to faculty, staff, and guests at the Base 11 - UCI Symposium.

This community club is an educational environment for me to practice communication skills through public speaking as well as leadership skills through serving as the Club Vice President of Education (FY 2018-2019), Club President (FY 2019-2020), and Sergeant-At-Arm (FY 2020-2021). The Toastmaster Educational Pathway opens many topic-oriented projects for me to practice on a specific aspect, which is Dynamic Leadership that I am working on, through 3 types of public speaking: the prepared, the impromptu, and the evaluating speeches.My role as club officers are:- Collaborating with other club officers to increase the club's meeting quality.- Scheduled the club's educational activities and provided members the educational-related information.- Brought back the Toastmasters Mentoring Program, a unique program to help every new Toastmaster's first steps.- Assisted the club to achieve President Distinguished Toastmaster Award - the highest award for clubs who performed significantly, during this FY 2018-2019 and 2019-2020.- Transitioned from a long-time physical meeting club to completely be online to cope with the pandemic, made proper adjustments and assisted elderly members who found this new platform challenging.
