Another area which is part of my job description is the working capital management and structuring the payments; working capital is the difference between current assets and current liabilities. Transactions include payments for trade, financing and investment activities. Relations with financial institutions and trading partners must be maintained to ensure that transactions work effectively. Analysis of working capital management activities is required so that appropriate strategies can be formulated and implemented. I measure the liquidity position on frequent basis with the help of liquidity ratios such as quick ratio. I make sure that number of receivables days’ ratio is more than the number of payables days’ ratio. Therefore I keep a close eye on the net operating cycle of NLCI can also forecast the short term cash out flows effectively with the help of many tools such as above. I keep an eye on the target cash balance which should always be enough to keep my company paying its creditors but not too much to loose the profit (i.e. Opportunity Cost). The excess cash in comparison with the target balance is immediately transferred to the profit earning bank accounts. Short term investments strategies are also formulated by me. We follow a passive strategy towards short term investment. A passive strategy is characterized by one or two decision rules for making daily investments, whereas an active strategy involves constant monitoring , matching, mismatching or laddering strategies. I was supervising the overall operations of the investment section including the preparation of P&L for the section.
