Guided by our mission to co-create durable solutions, we are committed to ensuring every Bhutanese refugee has the tools and opportunities to thrive with dignity, pride, and a sense of belonging.

Launched in partnership with Refugee Congress, Refugee Council USA (RCUSA), and Georgetown University’s Institute for the Study of International Migration (ISIM), it serves to channel the participation of all current and former forcibly displaced populations in the US to relevant regional and international policy bodies, thus providing a mechanism to ensure there is meaningful engagement in policies affecting them.Advisors participate in collaborative spaces devoted to programs and policies that impact forcibly displaced people and, as needed and invited by the US government, in US delegations to multilateral policy meetings. Engage directly with refugees, asylees, and other forcibly displaced populations in the United States to inform USRAB priorities.

The Committee on Racial Equity (CORE) is a new committee that has been created and chartered by the Metro Council to advise the Council and staff. The CORE’s primary purpose is to provide input and advice for the successful implementation of the strategic plan of Racial Equity. Provide community oversight and opportunities for Metro to have greater accountability to the community on implementing the strategic plan. Communicate Metro’s progress in implementing the strategic plan and assist Metro staff in the creation and implementation of the strategic plan evaluation.

The New Portlanders Policy Commission advises the City on policies and practices to integrate immigrant and refugee communities’ voices and needs into the provision of City services, City decision-making and civic engagement in Portland, and to seek constructive relationships with each member of Council and the City Auditor. The purpose of the New Portlanders Policy Commission is to: Review, develop, evaluate and refine policy and practice recommendations for improving immigrant and refugee community integration in all City activities. Facilitate constructive working partnerships between City leaders and newcomer community leadership. Provide a forum for setting integration goals between City bureaus and community organizations. Provide technical support and policy advice to City Council offices and City bureaus. Serve as a consultant and advocate to local, state and federal agencies on policies impacting immigrant and refugee communities, as capacity allows. Provide a report to City Council on policy and practice outcomes on an annual basis. Engage in the City’s annual budget process.

Coordinate IRCO’s School Linked Youth Academic Programs; Successful Families Initiative (SFI), Culturally Specific Organizations Collaborative (CSOC), and Middle School Transition for English Language Learners (MTELL). Responsible for overseeing the day-to day operations and oversight of programming at various elementary, middle and high schools in Portland. Providing direct supervision to direct service staff and youth advocacy staff, providing professional services; program budgeting, monitoring, planning, and implementing; community outreach; program development and maintenance; and coordinating program services.

Worked as a direct service staff with 30 plus youths from refugee and immigrant backgrounds. Implemented culturally specific and dynamic recruitment and outreach strategy to ensure diverse participants are served. Conducted career planning, coaching, support services, and placement support. Track and record participant activities and outcomes in I-Trac, data management system. Conducted career mapping workshops and facilitate a career/employment plan with participants. Coordinate training and OJT service delivery with local community colleges and WorkSource partners. Monitor progress towards outcomes and generate quarterly progress reports.

As a founding Board of Directors, I served on the board with respected leaders in river health, sustainability, Tribal sovereignty, environmental justice, and youth leadership development. The network’s purpose is to create a diverse network for river restoration to achieve a healthy Willamette River system, where people and rivers thrive. The most exciting and rewarding aspect has been envisioning and creating a holistic network that is community-driven and equity-centered on healing the river and our communities.

Develop and implement local community-based issue campaigns rooted in Unite Oregon’s pillar issue areas: Reimaging Community Safety, Housing, Economic Justice, Climate Justice, Education Equity, and Health Equity. Worked closely with statewide policy initiatives in Climate and Environmental Justice and Education Equity. • Worked on the 2022 Portland United for Change campaign to pass ballot measure 26-228 to change Portland’s city government structure. The ballot measure was successfully passed by a margin of 58%.• Worked closely with participatory budgeting of Oregon on Youth Voice Youth Vote (YV² PB)to uplift youth voices in participatory budgeting. • Coordinated HB 2990: Community Resilience Hubs coalition which builds resilience before, during, and after climate disasters through community-designed and operated hubs with surrounding networks.

Participated in Leadership Fellows year-long, leadership development program for student group leaders at Portland State University. The Leadership Fellows Program is a one year academic program offered through Student Activities and Leadership Programs (SALP) at Portland State University. The goals of the Leadership Fellows Program are to develop leadership skills to better serve student organization; develop understanding, knowledge, and skills that can use in career and community work; and to meet other student organization leaders and share insights.

Supported prospective, current students and their families regarding admissions, financial aid, and scholarships. Communicate and build relationships with high school guidance counselors, teachers, advisors, agents, and other external constituents and partners. Assisted with enrollment strategies by participating in special projects related to targeted outreach to prospective students (i.e., coordinating focus groups, facilitating various webinars in Nepal and India). * Special Project: conducted a research report on challenges and barriers international students face on a college campus. Designed potential program model and made recommendations in creating support systems for an inclusive and equitable college experience.

Worked with 30 plus Emergent Bilingual youths from high schools across the district in International Youth Leadership Council (IYLC). Mentored IYLC members to build leadership skills, public speaking, and problem-solving through various projects, training, and activities. Provide council members the guidance and support they need in their schools and empower their voices. Assist and inform the ESL Director to create programs that increase access to leadership opportunities and ESL students’ engagement in PPS schools. * Co-facilitate a student panel presentation at the 2016 National Summit for Courageous Conversations in Austin, Texas. * Keynote speaker at the Annual 2016-17 International Youth Leadership Conference.* Organize the Annual International Youth Leadership Conference and Middle School Cultural Jam to celebrate and empower diverse Emergent Bilingual youths across PPS.

Worked with Parks for the New Portlanders (PNP) program to design culturally specific programs to make sure services and spaces are welcoming and accessible to communities of color and immigrants and refugees. Advocate, organize, and engage youths and families in identifying barriers and challenges related to Park services. Worked with newly arrived refugees and immigrants in Portland to help integrate into the parks system by providing culturally specific training and resources to ensure access to parks, community centers, and resources to be self-sufficient. Organized annual Portland World Cup Soccer and Portland Intercultural Basketball Tournament
