Developed high average power Alexandrite laser system for hair-removal market (ClearScan ALX). Extensive work with Tm:YAG lasers and 1440nm Nd:YAG lasers for various markets. Incorporation of high-power diode lasers and fiber lasers (925 nm, 1470 nm, 1550 nm) for laser liposuction and non-ablative fractional resurfacing applications. Developed laser delivery systems (single spot zoom, scanning zoom, tracking pseudo-random scanner, fiber coupled large area, diode-based large area) for hair removal and resurfacing. Worked extensively with marketing staff and collaborating physicians on product concepts and new product rollout. -

Solved significant issues with the end customer, work with the customer's third-party subsystem integrator, managing multi-site technical team. Transitioned to managing overall packaging and optics engineering group (13 staff), moving multiple products to production in 5 product lines, e.g. high-reliability, high temperature CCP packages (AuSn solder), horizontal arrays, line illuminator product for printing applications, water-cooled vertical diode laser arrays, and introduction of new epi designs to existing package types.

Group included laser/optical, electronic packaging, and mechanical engineering functions. Packaging of tunable OC-48 Telcordia transmitter. Co-invented ITU-grid wavelength locker and transferred to production. Developed optical package incorporating a VCSEL laser, wavelength locker, and optical amplifier (SOA) for tunable, direct-modulation transmitter. Qualified outsource vendors and manufacturing partners. Consistently met schedule and budget goals. Trained and supervised subordinates in management of projects. Numerous patents filed in optical packaging. Other projects include MEMS-based tunable narrowband optical filter, implementation of PM fiber in laser packaging, integration of four lasers in a single package, external-cavity fiber dispersion (chirp) compensation, and management of company document control function.

Design and modeling of waveguides. Set up laser holography labs to produce electrically switchable Bragg gratings for display applications, including microdisplay-based personal wearable computer displays and switchable color filters. Established performance and reliability testing optical elements. Developed manufacturing techniques for multi-hologram alignment, QA, and replication.
