With a doctorate in Economics specializing in International Security and Defense, I began my career analyzing the economics of peace and conflict, with a particular focus on UN peacekeeping and peacebuilding efforts. My scholarly contributions include numerous articles and the textbook "The Economics of UN Peacekeeping" (Routledge 2011), the first comprehensive analysis of peacekeeping activities from an economic perspective.A SHIFT IN FOCUS: CONTINUING A LEGACY IN DIABETES CAREIn 2014, my professional journey took a profound turn following the sudden passing of my husband, Dr. Peter Sheehan, a pioneering figure in diabetes research. To honor his legacy, I co-founded the Peter Sheehan Diabetes Care Foundation (now OneGuild), where I serve as President. OneGuild is dedicated to advancing research and innovation in diabetes care through scientific and educational programs. Our initiatives include a range of medical education programs, recognition awards, and community outreach efforts designed to advance diabetes care. We are committed to fostering scientific exchange and supporting early-career scientists by recognizing and promoting their work through the Peter Sheehan Young Innovator Award, which honors the legacy of Dr. Peter Sheehan. Currently focused on tissue regeneration and limb preservation, we plan to expand this award to other critical areas of diabetes. Our upcoming projects include launching new platforms to connect the diabetes community and share the latest innovations with scientists, patients, caregivers, and advocates.BUILDING A GLOBAL COMMUNITY IN DIABETES INNOVATIONAt OneGuild, I work with a team of expert advisors to foster environments that promote scientific exchange and collaboration, uniting diverse communities to combat diabetes.
