Profile bio

About Nadia Obrien

I am an LSE postgraduate of Gender, Peace and Security, a researcher, an educationist, and a peacebuilder aspiring to advance collaborative public-private efforts by improving engagement with marginalised communities and diversity, equity and inclusion praxis. In my research experience over the past six years, in academia and in the not-for-profit sector, I found myself leaning towards exploring religious intersectionality, violence, and the politics of the public and the private. My personal experience as a minority has created a foundation of the knowingness of how individual subjectivities can determine one’s position in societal hierarchy, how others treat you and how you perceive yourself. My primary research and advocacy interest is around the ideas of complicit and internalised oppression.I have acquired skill sets in qualitative research, conducting literature reviews, carrying out various kinds of analyses using software, and writing research papers. I have also assisted in and conducted primary research- creating questionnaires, analysing interviews, compiling and reviewing existing literature and theories to substantiate or debunk it. Over 4 years of my tenure as a student, I also wore the hat of an educationist - a consultant, curriculum creator, teacher, mentor, and advocate for accessible education. I have engaged with publishers, parents, and teachers, but most importantly with students from multiple demographics. By building trust-based relationships with them, my aim was to effectively foster in them a compassion, a hunger for knowledge, and an inclination for inclusivity and ethics. My career intention is to empower marginalised identities through my quest for innovative solutions that are practical, sustainable, inclusive, and peaceful.
