Sessional tutor in Torts Law and Australian Legal Systems

Key duties of this role:• negotiation, drafting and review of commercial contracts covering diverse areas of the business, including IT-infrastructure projects, managed services, software licences and procurement;• provision of legal and policy advice to all divisions of the business, including risk assessment and management, intellectual property and disputes; and• liaising with staff from all divisions of the company and the parent company, Optus Networks Pty Ltd, as well as customers, including large business and government, suppliers and subcontractors.

Sessional tutor in:• IT Law (Macquarie Law School); and• Business Law (Accounting and Corporate Governance School).

Key duties:• negotiation, drafting and review of commercial contracts covering diverse areas of the business, including procurement, construction contracts, software licensing, leases, sale agreements and co-user broadcasting licences (with a range of customers, including telecommunications industry and state and federal government authorities);• ownership and management of a number of large-scale projects, ranging from development of business strategies, participation in the analysis of business opportunities, reviewing and submitting tenders, negotiation of the terms of contract, assessment of risk, indemnity and insurance provisions, including liaising with senior management, operational staff and insurance brokers.

• drafting and reviewing contracts between government entities and private sector, including intellectual property licences and commercialisation agreements with respect to the development and use of software programmes, hardcopy materials and television campaigns; service agreements and consultancy agreements involving, for example, funding of research projects and development of marketing materials; commercial contracts such as requests for tender, procurement policies, deeds of novation and filming agreements;• conduct of civil litigation, including preparation and review of relevant court documents, consultation with witnesses and attendance at court; and• legal research and preparation of advice in relation to copyright ownership, trademark registration, trade practices and contractual and copyright disputes.
