Supporting WMCA on a number of projects in a freelance capacity

Co-lead of the Metro team delivering a £878m programme of light rail extensions. Providing freelance finance consultancy support

Finance and Commercial Director for the Midland Metro Alliance from 2016 to 2019, a complex alliance of 9 companies which is the design and construction vehicle delivering the Metro expansion programme. This involved leading a team of 25 from the different companies responsible for financial, commercial, procurement, estimating and Project Management Office activities. This role included:o set up of financial, commercial and project management processes for the newly formed vehicle e.g. risk management tools, project reporting, change management, project accounting, and a new supply chaino leading an office relocation project for c.150 employees, including commercial negotiationso leading the 2018-19 business planning process for the organizationo managing IT arrangements

Initially worked as Head of Finance for Fulcrum (a subsidiary of Meridiam), helping guide the company financially through a difficult period following an acquisition. Rebuilt financial systems and processes, and improved financial information provision to investors and joint venture partners. Also a Non-Executive Director on the Boards of joint ventures with the public sector.Went on to be CFO for the Nottingham Tram Phase 2 concession, and other infrastructure concessions. Was the main accountable person for finance, including management of relationships with lenders and investors, and as Company Secretary responsible for ensuring proper governance of the Boards. Advisor to other members of the project teams on the complex contractual arrangements, and key contact with the legal advisers. Presented to the 2015 UK Light Rail conference on funding light rail schemes.

Sunbury-On-Thames

Managed a team of 10 looking after financial reporting for BP's parent entity, BP plc, and its largest UK corporate entity BP International. Also looked after reporting for a number of other corporate entities and the share based payments accounting, with plc's results forming part of the company Annual Report. In this role merged two separate teams and continued my SOX work, being responsible for several self-assessments (including Directors' Remuneration).

Canary Wharf, London

This was a predominantly technical role working on specific projects for the Treasury function including the implementation of accounting for credit default swaps under IFRS and the investigation and implementation into accounting for a change in interest rate risk management policies (switching from fixed rate back to floating). Also prepared the adjustments and the Hedge Accounting disclosure for the BP Annual Report and Accounts for 2006.

This role entailed Group Reporting feeds, month-end procedures, preparation of audit files for 6 Treasury companies, statutory accounts under UK GAAP and tax computation for BP Capital Markets plc, the main external debt issuance entity (incl first implementation of FRS23 and FRS26), provision of FX accounting advice on Treasury proposals, administration of group loans and the preparation of Treasury Corporate MI submissions

This role involved daily cash reconciliations for bond and swap cash, month-end tasks for the Emerging Markets book (posting reserves, swap PVs, funding, bond PVs, loan PVs, cash timing differences to the ledger) and reconcilations between Front Office positions and the ledger balance sheet for Bonds, Swaps, Futures, and Loans post month-end.

Managed a team responsible for all the London office costs, including allocations from back office to front office and intercompany reconciliations with other entities around the globe. As part of this role was the main user for the implementation of a new GL system.

Worked on a number of different clients in different sectors. At the end of my time at BDO spent 6 months on secondment to the tax department working on a due diligence project and several advisory projects.
