Award-winning systems theorist and change strategist for over 20 years. I’ve advised and supported many of the biggest organisations and networks in the world, including the United Nations Faith For Earth Initiative, the Organisation for Islamic Cooperation (the largest 56 member intergovernmental body after the UN), Aviva Investors, Ubisoft, the International Security Management Association, the Biodiversity Fund, the UK Ministry of Defence’s Defence Academy, the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, and the Global Citizens Assembly which represented the world population at the UN COP26 climate summit, among many others. I’m the author of the first peer-reviewed study developing a systems framework to understand climate, energy, food, economy, terrorism, and state militarisation as interconnected within the global system. Am also author of several major books and influential policy reports, most recently with the Club of Rome and RethinkX. I continue to integrate research across the natural and social sciences, developing transdisciplinary systems frameworks to help companies, nonprofits and citizens respond to humanity's biggest global challenges. I’ve used this systems framework to successfully predict some of the most consequential events in recent history, including warning of the 2008 banking collapse in the month before Nouriel Roubini. As a former Guardian and VICE investigative journalist, I communicate research to mass audiences through compelling multimedia journalism read and watched by millions, and am writer and co-producer of several feature documentaries and short films on systems approaches to global crisis and technology disruptions (including The Crisis of Civilization and Rethinking Humanity, check them out on YouTube).I build, advise and consult for organisations and networks on systems thinking in both the private and public sectors. I’ve won, led on, delivered and advised on major multi-million research, strategy and communications projects.
