I am the founder of TalentSavvy.com that is disrupting the way enterprise IT Departments leverage external workforce/talent. Most IT departments are >50% outsourced - extent of outsourcing is even higher for 'doers' such as Developers, Network Engineers etc. as retained employees tend to be managers, coordinators, architects etc. The vast majority of the outsourcing contracts are structured around rate cards that are based on location (offshore being much cheaper than onshore) and seniority (years of experience). However, neither location nor seniority is a good indicator of the proficiency of an individual or the value he/she is adding to the enterprise! On top of this, service providers are typically chosen based on the unit rates - subliminally encouraging the providers to increase volumes (esp. of juniors) to be profitable!!The structure of the rate card has not changed since the early days of outsourcing, even as the world has become Digital. Talent is critical for designing small, autonomous teams - a basic component of Digital/Agile organizations. What if there was a way to measure the proficiency of a contractor and base the rate card on this proficiency? It is common knowledge that a great developer can be 10x more effective than an ordinary developer - if enterprises are willing to pay a premium for great developers, they can reduce costs (by opting for 'fewer but higher caliber developers') even while improving quality outcomes.This is what we are doing at TalentSavvy.com: objectively measuring the proficiency/fit-for-role of an individual, setting up rate cards to align with proficiency, creating the transparency to strive for 'fewer but higher caliber engineers'.
