Since February 2023, I am in charge of the CD section of GitLab. This section is responsible for the whole application delivery process no matter the target infrastructure. We segment our work into several categories, like:- Deployment management- Infrastructure as Code- Continuous Deilvery- Release orchestration- Feature flagsMy responsibility is to set priorities and drive the work in the CD section from vision to market reporting to the VP of Product. While GitLab is a leader in the Gartner DevOps Platform category, its application delivery solutions are less mature than its security or CI offering. As a result, there is a huge opportunity for the CD section to capture.As part of my regular product management work I directed the team to- improve the GitLab Kubernetes management offering with a GitLab built-in real-time dashboard for Kubernetes resources;- integrate GitLab with FluxCD for modern GitOps practices;- balance new value creation with maintenance work considering the very strict conditions we need to operate in;- continue to operate legally in turbulent times around changing open source licensing terms in the industry.

At GitLab, we started the deployment direction with my previous managers roughly one year ago. With this change, I became responsible for driving forward a large part of that direction spanning three DevOps stages, Configure, Release and Package.My job is to align our product strategies and ensure that the PMs reporting to me can grow and succeed in their positions while we deliver the most value to our customers.

I could list the regular PM job here. I won't do that, just the highlights.I was hired as the PM for the Serverless category. My first action was to stop that category. Oops!I am driving the Infrastructure as Code integrations of GitLab, focusing primarily on Terraform.I took the lead on redesigning the GitLab - Kubernetes integrations and launched the GitLab agent for Kubernetes. As a result, I am one of the most active user interviewers within GitLab, using several strategies to recruit users and non-users alike.I work with UX research and product design on research projects and design sprints. Some of them joined GitLab several years ago, others joined only recently and we even have a team member at the very beginning of their PM career. I am mentoring and coaching in the field of product management and agile transformation. From explaining idea validation to startups to organising the product management team of 50+ people companies, I've been working with small to large companies as well.

As part of my extracurricular activities at the Fontanus Academy we are organising the Skyball World Cup. Skyball is much more to a ball-game. Given it's rules I think of it as the basis for a new way of sports, where knowing our own body, where it begins and ends is crucial. However it's a physical sport, it's equally demanding mentally too as there is teamplay, tactics, strategies involved. Moreover, given the outstanding preparations we made during the past year, focus and consciousness are crucial to achieve good results. The championship consists of 10 rounds and a 3 weekends long play-off.I opted in to form a team as the 9th captain in the 10-team championship. I thought at this point that it will be hard to form a good team, as the best players were already committed to other teams, but I was determined to do my best as a team captain. With the Toreadors I've managed to build a team in a few months that delivered above all the expectations. Once all the teams have formed, an initial evaluation expected us to be among the last 2 teams, nevertheless the team improved continuously, and we managed to achieve better results from one round to another, and our best result was a 2nd place in the 9th round. Currently we are working to become at least the 6th team in the overall ranking in order to move on to the play-off.

As a product owner I'm responsible for delivering value to our customers given our human and time constraints.My daily job involves communicating high level development tasks (Stories) for the development team. The objective is to discuss all the feature developments with them so they understand the real needs, and can provide the best technical solutions without my intervention.In order to create a bridge between our customers and developers, I'm regularly asking for customer feedback and try to communicate with stakeholders. Furthermore, I'm prioritizing their needs together with the Product Manager. At Balabit, we say that a Product Owner is 70% inwards facing, and 30% customer facing. While the Product Manager is the opposite. Of course, the SCB Product Manager is my closest co-worker.Besides my "routine"​ job. I'm taking on bigger projects too.My first task was to find another Product Owner, as working together with 7 development teams is almost impossible. After a few months, I've managed to find the right candidate from within the organization.Beside the above, from the very beginning I was trying to focus on understanding our users, and how they use our products. As a result, I've started to build some analytical tools on top of available usage data, created with my teams the SCB user roles, and in general try to put our development into a well thought-trough workflow.
