Coming out of a Covid-induced dry spell, I took the time to reflect and work on myself to determine how, where, and with who I may make my biggest impact and where my partner and I may call our forever home. The North Coast Coop in Humboldt County turned out to be my next steps, and it has been a pleasure and a privilege to participate and contribute to the culture here both within and without the Coop's walls.

Buffalo/Niagara, New York Area

I opened and developed the Cheese department for Lexington Coop's Hertel store before taking on the role of Grocery Manager there. I oversaw a staff of nine direct reports and worked closely with other Coordinators and Managers in an Open Book Management environment to ensure we were meeting our goals and staying true to the Coop's vision for serving our communities.

San Francisco Bay Area

While partnering with Brad Dube to open Cheese & Sundry, I handled SF Bay Area and other west coast and out of town accounts and sales for Food Matters Again. I helped establish and oversee west coast operations including warehousing, deliveries, and consolidations in the greater Bay Area; working closely with the team in Brooklyn and establishing a West Coast sales team. During my time in LA, I acted as retail GM for the property, restructured the divisions of labor, wage and training structures, and continued to evolve and grow our product selection and sales. I founded the retail arm of Farmshop, beginning with the Santa Monica location - assisting in layout during construction of the Artisan Market and building all training programs, product selection and vendor set up, hiring of all Market staff, developing POS solutions, inventory and warehousing protocol, etc. After two years, I was able to hand off operations of Farmshop Santa Monica to my managers allowing me to move into the role of buyer (amongst other things) for the company.

I left Harmon's to work at Liberty Heights Fresh, a small independent specialty grocer with strong ethics towards supporting authentic craft producers. I began working as a cheesemonger, shortly taking over as Cheese & Charcuterie manager. Duties including maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, setting up and breaking down the department daily, buying for the department and setting pars through tracking sales, etc. I folded other categories into my repertoire: fresh meat, dairy &… Show more I left Harmon's to work at Liberty Heights Fresh, a small independent specialty grocer with strong ethics towards supporting authentic craft producers. Early 2011, I also took over the Produce department (basically all preishable goods) and my title changed to Fresh Foods Wrangler. Before leaving Liberty Heights Fresh, I took lead on a storewide restructuring, fulfilling the role of GM and storewide Buyer, taking charge of Grocery and working closely with our front end manager to tighten up bread and floral ordering. At the time, each Harmon's location had one Cheesemonger leading the artisan cheese team. I worked off the given catalog to purchase according to my store's trends, educated my team regarding product and protocols, scheduled daily food demos, tracked and logged all waste, and drove sales through sampling, merchandising, and guest education.
