When I was 8, I won a contest for reading the most books in my entire elementary school. I loved reading because I enjoyed imagining different worlds and exploring them. I continue to love storytelling, and I aspire to tell the stories of marginalized communities. As the first assistant rehearsal director of Spelman Dance Theater company, I was instrumental in facilitating a dance piece illustrating the loss of queer people during the height of the AIDs pandemic in the 1980's. I also appreciate the power of theatre as a mode of storytelling. In Spring of 2023, I performed two scenes in Miss Spelman's Vagina Monologues. In the fall, I choreographed, acted, and danced in Spriggs Burrough Drama and Dance Ensemble's Festival of Eccentrics. Through my journey of discovering my artistry at Spelman College, I learned the power of academic research in understanding the experiences of marginalized people. After engaging and performing in two dance research projects, my interest in researching Black women through the lens of feminist theory rose. I am now in the process of applying for internships that give me the opportunity to strengthen my research skills and utilize my creativity.
