About Vishnu Nair

I am a soon-to-be PhD graduate in Computer Science from Columbia University with a background in human-computer interaction (HCI). I specialize in both research & engineering, using rapid prototyping and user testing to design and build impactful products. My interests generally lie in accessibility, design, digital media, smart cities, generative AI, and VR/AR. My technical experience includes using technologies like the Unity engine and Python to rapidly prototype and deploy solutions across cloud platforms, PCs, and mobile devices. A highlight was my Microsoft Research internship, where I integrated my prototype directly with Microsoft Teams. I also developed a cloud-based infrastructure for my lab to facilitate remote tests, control prototypes, and gather detailed analytics.My focus on accessibility makes me especially sensitive to user needs, and so I engage users throughout development. I regularly conduct in-depth stakeholder interviews to identify user needs, co-design with users, and build strong rapport during user testing. I have conducted dozens of user study sessions with the prototypes I have built. I regularly communicate ideas through published papers, technical reports, and talks for technical and non-technical audiences. I am also the lead inventor on a pending patent and prepping one of my projects for public release as a functional plugin for the Unreal Engine.I am excited to translate complex research into practical solutions addressing real user problems, and I am currently seeking industry job opportunities (especially in R&D).
