The Quality Assurance role leads the implementation of an Environmental Management System at Moreland City Council, who recently acknowledged that we are in a state of climate emergency that requires urgent action by all levels of government and society.Moreland has a long and proud history of leadership action on climate change and environmental sustainability, and implementing a highly effective, adaptable, and innovative EMS is one of Council's strategic action responses contained within Council Plan 2017-2021.At Moreland, I developed an environmental aspects & impacts (risk) register, have introduced an incident notification, escalation, investigation and reporting process, established an internal environmental auditing program, and am responsible for ensuring compliance with General Environmental Duties under the Victorian Environment Protection Act 2017, as well as provide training on environmental obligations, competence and awareness.

Programmed Facility Management was a contract partner to the Water Corporation to manage and operate the water, wastewater, and drainage network in Perth Metro. The contract was valued at $785M over five years.As the only Environmental Specialist for the region, I was responsible for day-to-day operations that involve environmental risk compliance and incident response and investigations. I championed the overhaul of the incident management processes including for uncontrolled releases of solid, liquid and gaseous discharges. By visualising events and automating actions from investigations, the Alliance reduced the likelihood and/or consequences of possible repeat events. The Regulator was actively consulted during this process, as well as landcare groups.I established a workable 5-year Environment Sustainability Plan which contributed to better processes for risk control and reduction in wastage and customer complaints. This includes easy-to-follow risk plans called 'Environment Essentials'. Subsequently, the Corporation has re-produced initiatives, modelled on my work, to the greater Western Australia region, something I am extremely proud of.I assessed HSEQ compliance risks for capital projects and audited them and provided technical leadership for many drainage for liveability works, as well as pipeline/pump station constructions.I was an integral force behind PRA's continued triple certification of the HSEQ Management System since the Alliance's inception and recently successfully upgraded the Quality and Environment component to the 2015 ISO version. Strategically, I was a valued member of the leadership team and provided input into futureproofing successive contract continuation. I also provided expertise to the Corporation on the topics of Aquatic Weeds, Acid Sulphate Soils, Contaminated Sites, Chemicals and Hazardous Materials, Energy and Carbon, Vegetation Management, Noise/Vibration and Odour, Recycling and Technology, and Waste as Resource.

At SCA Hygiene Australasia (now Essity), I was a valued key member of the manufacturing leadership team to drive environmental improvement in our operations. The paper making and converting process utilises copious amounts of freshwater and energy, impacts on the loading of wastewater treatment processes, and generates waste. This role required me to analyse very closely water, energy, and quality data to constantly find opportunities to produce SCA's beloved household-name consumer products, without compromising quality, with a lower environmental footprint. Deliverables: Stakeholder engagement and management (Community Consultative Committee, chair of factory resource working groups), licence and compliance reporting, EMS planning, compliance and monitoring, technical review for engineering and marketing, development and delivery of training packages for manufacturing and corporate staff.

Working as part of the Sewage Quality and Environment team, I provided consistent environmental support to the business, across the engineering design, capital works, operations and maintenance, and planning departments. The team also provided services to marketing, communications, finance, and water conservation departments. Key to the success of the team was the effective implementation of utilisation of Sustainability Assessments for projects, so all relevant risks were captured in the early stages of planning, as well as during construction and through to decommissioning.Deliverables: Federal/state flora and fauna and heritage approval applications, contractor/consultant technical review, stakeholder engagement (Environmental Sustainability Plan, Community Liaison Committee, 'Sustainable Staff'), showerhead exchange program offset accounting, GHG inventory management, environmental training, EMS planning, compliance and monitoring.

My role here involved implementing the State Government's water conservation strategy, to reduce per capita water use in Melbourne. I oversaw governance of the residential water conservation program, including managing stock supply for water efficient products such as showerheads, water flow restrictors, toilets and gardening paraphernalia. I also undertook budgeting, engaged our customers and the community, and interfaced with distributors and suppliers (total budget managed was in excess of $1M.)Deliverables: use of community-based social marketing tools to campaign, market, communicate, and implement sustainable behaviours, worked with stakeholders to achieve targets, developed a comprehensive showerhead exchange inventory and reporting tool that accounted for greenhouse gas abatements from water conservation projects, oversaw water usage behaviours data research and analysis.
