This OMFS post involves performing both non-surgical and surgical oral surgery procedures under both local and general anaesthesia within a secondary care/hospital setting. Additional procedures such as biopsies and apicectomies may also be performed. Many of these patients also presented with complex medical problems requiring particular management.The post involves both the surgical and post-operative recovery management of complex trauma, oncology and orthognathic patients. Being on-call at weekends and late evenings involves caring for all ward patients and covering clinics, A&E and theatres as required. Clinics involve seeing referred patients who may present with a variety of needs including complex or failed extractions, TMJ disorders, suspicious lesions and oral medicine conditions. Involved undertaking all aspects of routine dentistry within an NHS practice. Routine restorative, fixed and removable prosthodontics, extraction and endodontic procedures were performed. With trainer guidance, also gained experience in electrosurgery and rotary endodontics.

Post involved performing ELISA assays on saliva samples to determine the levels of various antimicrobial peptides present and their correlation to periodontal disease status. Results presented at IADR European Conference 2012, Finland.
