The company is based on additive manufacturing that creates a 3D object by adding layer-upon-layer to build models. It has recently started operations in India and I am one of the first employees working for the organization. My designation is that of a 3D Printing Engineer. We provide pre-production planning solutions to the company from our office in Mumbai. 3D printing is still a relatively new technology and hence, I, as a 3D printing engineer at Shapeways, am required to check the models uploaded by customers and plan efficient builds for the 3D printers out in the United States. Also, while doing the same, I have to decide logically on whether the part should be accepted for printing and hence what will be the best orientation that will render the best 3D print of the given model. I also have to take care about customer satisfaction regarding their orders and accordingly provide feedback to the production head. I got the opportunity to learn a new simulation software named Netfabb, which we use for checking and build planning, which adds another software to my skill sets. The experience is helping me a lot in gaining in-depth knowledge about additive manufacturing and it’s potential to change the conventional manufacturing methods. Show less
