In this study, I uncovered a correlation of mucosal IL-17 producing NKp44+ILCs with reduced risk of infection. This is the first ever report of association between mucosal NK/ILC and reduce rick of HIV/SIV acquisition (Nat Med. 2016 Jul;22(7):762-70). I also found a correlation between IFN-γ producing double negative (NKp44- NKG2A-) innate cells in mucosa with increased risk of SIV infection. We also found that the RAS signalling pathway was associated with protection SIV/HIV in RV144 like study in rhesus macaques (Nat Med. 2016 Jul;22(7):762-70). In collaboration with Dr. Rafick Sekaly's lab, I found the down-regulation of inflammatory genes in blood when ALVAC-SIV primed macaques were boosted with ALVAC-SIV and alum-adjuvanted SIV gp120 envelop protein.I tested the use of envelop specific passively transferred antibodies (passive immunization) together with vaccine recruited NK cells to mediate protection from SIV infection.Furthermore, I studied different vaccine vectors and adjuvants to develop an effective preventive vaccination strategy for HIV infection.
