My full name is Namanh Hoang, but people just call me Nam. I have been building computers since I was 8, starting with an IBM-compatible AT computer. Video games are one of my biggest passions, and many of my most successful case studies are with gaming brands.I was one of the early employees at Linksys when I was 19, and as a product, I helped them develop the brand and marketing that still carries through to today. XFX was one of the first major brands I helped to create, which started with an annual revenue of $100K, and over the span of 5 years, I helped it reach half a billion dollars, becoming one of the 3 largest graphics card manufacturers in the world. In 2015, I joined CyberPowerPC as their brand manager, and with my help, we've grown the brand from $70M in annual revenue to $497M in just under 6 years. I have helped countless other brands achieve similar growth and success.I graduated from the University of California, Irvine, in 2007, majoring in Sociology with a specialization in behavioral mathematics and business. During my undergrad, I was the first undergrad to publish a research paper based on my branding thesis. I graduated with honors, sweeping nearly all of the School of Social Sciences’ award categories with 4 prestigious awards upon my graduation.I started a number of early successful startups, including a fashion brand that sold at luxury boutiques and retailers, including Fred Segal and Nordstrom, and an internet startup that was invited to the illustrious Y-Combinator accelerator program interviews in 2014. All of them have failed, but I’ve learned so much along the way from those experiences, which has given me a keen understanding of the pitfalls that could plague many companies today. Today, with this knowledge, I’ve helped countless brands find phenomenal success in as little as a few months.One thing I’m certain about is that my success so far is never been achieved by myself alone. you have to be driven and hardworking, but you need to make sure you are recognized, and it is really the people around you that guide you and can lift you up to the next level in your life. A piece of advice I give to all students I speak to today is this,Surround yourself with people smarter than you, and try to be the dumbest one in the group; that way, you are always learning something. But don’t forget that once you learn something, you have a responsibility to teach it to others.
