In 2012, I was lucky to be chosen for an internship, which then turned into a job at Darius Khambata's chamber, when he was the Advocate General of Maharashtra. He reinforced my belief that individuals can make a difference. He also convinced me to apply for an LLM and after 2 years of learning from him and some of the best counsels in the Bombay High Court who were part of his chamber, I went to Columbia Law School. I spent a year working at Pepper Hamilton in Philadelphia, then moved back to Mumbai and joined Rashmikant and Partners (then Federal & Rashmikant), a boutique firm known for its formidable litigation practice. Rashmikant and Partners has given me the opportunity to focus on the 3 things that give my work meaning: - Building an arbitration and cross-border commercial disputes practice - Building an institution and learning how to manage a firm - Advocating for the things I care about In 2019, one of my Columbia Law classmates and I, along with the International Advocacy Training Council (IATC), founded the Advocacy Training Course that now runs regularly at the Bombay High Court. The course is the first of its kind in India and is designed to teach junior lawyers oral advocacy skills. Recently, I had the opportunity to be the very first Indian to train alongside the IATC's international faculty from jurisdictions across the Common Law world at the Advocacy Course at the DIFC Courts in Dubai. I am currently serving on the Young Practitioners' Subcommittee, and the India Subcommittee of Arbitration Pledge which advocates for gender diversity in International Arbitration. I was also a regional representative for India at LCIA's Young International Arbitration Group. In addition to my commercial disputes work at the firm, I am also working on creating more opportunities for my colleagues, and myself, to learn, have access to mentorship and information about their career choices and the LLM. My goal is to invite others to reimagine a better future for our justice system and the legal profession.
