CurrentProvider Education on the National EDHI goals, and laws and legislation in Michigan pertaining to Newborn and Infant Hearing protocols. Reduced LTF in Wayne County from 77% to 35%. Made visits to over 500 Wayne County practices. (Educating over 150 pediatric and family practices throughout Wayne County.) Provider visits to other practices as needed in Macomb, Oakland and Jackson Counties. Loss to Follow Up for babies who referred on their initial and followup hearing screens. Letters, phone calls and faxes to parents and medical homes to encourage followup for babies who failed their initial hearing screens. Encouraged follow up diagnostic evaluations for babies who failed two or more screens. Midwife Liaison: encouraging midwives to educate their families about the importance of hearing screening. Worked in partnership with CMU and Michigan Coalition for Deaf, Hard of Hearing and DeafBlind People to obtain top of the line portable hearing screening equipment from funding from the Carls Foundation for midwives to access to screen their babies. In six months, hearing screens in out of hospital birthed babies moved from 19% to 67%, with some practices achieving a 94% screen rate. To date, 6 home-birth babies were identified as Deaf or Hard of Hearing since its inception.
