I am an employment lawyer and mediator based in New York City, where I have had my practice since 2003. I also resolve workplace disputes worldwide—before they end up in court. My goal is to help employers and employees create employment as a mutually beneficial partnership, so everyone has a more peaceful and productive work experience.Prior to law school, I worked in Human Resources and operations management at one of the most efficient corporations in the world. At UPS, I got world-class management training and developed an interest in employment law.Planning to go to law school in the off seasons, I spent a few years in the front offices of three minor league professional sport franchises. I worked with hockey greats like Bob Bourne and Warren Young, but I missed my opportunity to see Michael Jordan play AAA baseball by a few weeks. Nevertheless, I had the pleasure of meeting legends such as Buck O’Neill, Branch Rickey III, and Tom Pagnozzi, who reminded me that even the elite have similar human needs to the rest of ours.After I entered law school, I left the front offices and spent a few years representing minor league hockey players in contract negotiations. I continue to work with athletic trainers, mascots, and others in the sport and entertainment industries. The skills I gained negotiating contracts have helped me creatively resolve some of the most intractable conflicts in workplaces, from union shops to licensed professions and higher education.I am certified in employment and ethno-religious mediation, and I served for two years as the Main Representative to the United Nations for the International Center for Ethno-Religious Mediation. Frequently, I assist journalists writing on conflict resolution, mediation, workplace disputes, domestic employment, independent contractors, and polyvictimization.
