I started a home-based sewing business in 1994 as a way to supplement the family income while being home with my children. Subsequently, my ability to combine the eye and skill of an artisan with the desires and needs of my customer set the stage for a very successful business which steadily grew despite relocating from Indianapolis to Dallas, TX.While in Texas, I opened and operated the Home Sewn Solutions custom drapery studio. Home Sewn Solution’s 5,000 square foot building housed a retail showroom and on-site workroom that was designed to not only help people visualize products but to educate them as well. I carried several lines of fabric, trim, hardware, and blinds. Products were made at the studio keeping costs low and quality high. My fabricators and I frequently attended design shows, educational seminars and conferences so that we could stay current on the latest trends, products and techniques, then pass that expertise and knowledge on to the customers. As successful as the business was, I realized that managing a business and supervising employees was not where my true passion lies, so I sold the business prior to moving to North Carolina.After moving to North Carolina, I worked as a fabricator for a local high end design firm focusing on specialized small projects, as well as a workroom resource for other designers and decorators.After yet another move to the Greater St. Louis area, I handle everything related to binds and shade sales, as well as drapery and bedding sales and fabrication for Eye on Design, Belleville IL. Responsibilities included but were not limited to in-home consultations, design, sales, ordering and fabrication of custom products.Back in North Carolina (to stay!), I am back to operating out of my own small home-based studio providing design and fabrication to both designers and homeowners. Over the years I have also enjoyed working part time for a variety of businesses including a flooring company, a clothing manufacturer, and the most fun of all, a retail sales associate at the Biltmore in Asheville!
