I worked as a teacher in a special program in NYS designed to help adults finish high school, if necessary, and then enter college. These programs, Educational Opportunity Centers still function throughout NYS. They are located in urban areas but are connected to a SUNY campus nearby. I also taught two years in public schools. I taught reading and study skills at EOC and English and Reading in the public schools. I have an MEd in Reading Education from the University of Arizona and a BA in Secondary English from SUNY Potsdam.I enjoyed taking a year of architecture courses at a local community college, OCC.After retiring I have been writing and I worked in retail part time and completed a few temp assignments, the longest one at Nationwide Insurance..I am not on LinkedIn to look for a job, although I have seen some great ones advertised on this site. I have been hoping to attract readers to my blog. Once I had listened to Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh I could not let the Tea Party be the only voice people were hearing in politics. I felt that Republicans have been taken down a dead end road and were hammering home some very hate-filled propaganda. I just wanted people to have someone just as passionate, and perhaps less mean to listen to on the left. Since I have some independent income right now (although I am hardly wealthy) I am free, for once, to pursue my own interests. I have learned a lot as I have tuned into the news and read on the internet and I want to stay informed and active at this crucial moment of change in the world.I also love to read novels and stay current with contemporary literature. I was reading so much that I had a tendency to forget what I had read. After about a year I had only a dim recollection of many books, although the great ones remain vivid for a long time. I decided to keep a book list of new books to help me pick new titles and to keep a book diary as a record of each book that I read.
