*Assigned to the outreach department, the practicum addressed issues faced by clients as they transition back into society. Issues of mandated programs such as parenting, housing, financial support, and medication administration were all a part of this aspect of the placement. *Provide clinical and risk management services to adults under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Review Board (ORB). Responsible for liaising with inpatient units regarding new referrals, developing, implementing and monitoring risk management plans, ensuring compliance with ORB dispositions, and participates in the development of ORB reports. * Actively participated in interdisciplinary team meetings as well as ORB pre board meetings to determine courses of action as it pertains to individual client cases.

• Nimkee NupiGawagan Healing Centre is a provincially licensed residential treatment facility that provides intensive clinical treatment to Aboriginal youth ages 12-17, experiencing addiction and solvent abuse.• Importance was placed on identifying and addressing the needs of youth who were from situations where domestic violence, addictions and mental health were present. The acknowledgment and understanding of the socio-economic and systems challenges that may have impact on the youth’s experiences where abuse, maltreatment and/or neglect may be present was a priority for caseworkers.• Responsible for maintaining accurate youth files including intake, serious occurrence reports, design and application of treatment plan, discharge, medication distribution and keeping accurate records of any and all prescriptions and distribution of such medications to clients. • Facilitating and designing classroom programs that address youth’s needs such as social skills, anger management, and sexuality as well as relapse prevention etc. • Facilitated First Nation focused program “Moccasins to Stilettos.” (University of Saskatchewan) • The daily supervision of youth to attend holistic programming, assisting youth to participate abide by our residential

• The focus of this practicum was on the cultural aspects of the program in place at Nimkee. The research project “Honouring our strength” was at the center of this practicum, as this research was unfolding during this time and looked beyond the question surrounding cultural healing being effective, and onto why it is so effective. Other area covered during this practicum involved policy review, the importance of words selected when writing policy and the power these words hold. First Nation traditions, ceremonies, vulnerabilities of First Nations communities and connection to history were reviewed in depth as they pertain to program design. • One on one counseling sessions with clients ages 12-17 yrs. were also apart of the training hours. Counseling sessions as well as the overall program design of the agency was built on Choice and Solution based theories, as these theories have been proven to blend well with the holistic approach utilized by the center.• Emphasis at Nimkee revolved around the youth’s experiences. More often than not, the youth experienced abuse, maltreatment and/or neglect throughout their lives in their home communities.
