Being a Shift manager for so many years, I recognize the importance of enforcing company policies and regulations. Without policies and regulations we are not able to define boundaries for our employees or our guests. As a shift manager I was responsible to train and develop all my employees and I believed in leading by example. I always remained professional, and tried to create an environment of trust and openness. Employees need to know that you are hearing them; not only listening. As a manger we need to carefully digest the employee’s statement, hear their whole message and understand the message. As a manager you should always investigate every situation, gather all the facts and always remain neutral. You should always be fair and consistent and let the employee know that you support and respect their opinions. I believe because I was fair, and consistent and led by example I had earned the respect of my employees, peers and upper management.
