CurrentAs a highly experienced Donor Specialist, I am responsible for the registration, interview, draw, and care of all blood donors. I am a versatile professional who carries out technical and non-technical activities related to the blood collection process.• Perform blood collection while demonstrating proficiency in the use of whole blood component and apheresis component collection systems (Trima Accel, Alyx Component Collection System)• Determine donor eligibility by utilizing appropriate resources, including the NYBC SOP manual• Ensure the safety of the donor, recipient, staff, and product; maintain a clean and sanitary work space• Provide quality patient care while building positive relationships with patients, family members, physicians, and other medical professionals• Adhere to client confidentiality by ensuring all records and associated materials are accurate, legible, and complete• Serve as a Preceptor employing constructive feedback and guidance while training new hires on collection technology, venipuncture techniques, and SOP’s/guidelines• Provide donor translation services and assist at blood drives in Spanish-speaking communities• Gained invaluable experience in convalescent plasma collection, essential in supporting patient recovery throughout the COVID-19 pandemic• Assist with recruiting and educating donors (platelet/RBC apheresis, National bone Marrow Donor Program)• Recipient of multiple Shining Star and Silver Needle Awards in recognition of three months of point-free performance and demonstrated proficiency in the Alyx Component Collection System• Participate in appropriate in-services, training programs, and error review• Assemble and maintain medical instruments (needles, test tubes, blood vials)• Accurately complete paperwork associated with directed, autologous, and therapeutic donors• Identify and label drawn samples and accurately enter information into the database
