In 2024, I plan to run for the City Council District 2 seat. Nomination petitions and the qualifying contribution portal open in June. I am humbled by the generosity of people I know who have helped me make connections, learn about affordable and subsidized housing, and collect the seed money allowed before I attempt to qualify for Fair Elections Funding in the summer. In December, 2023, I retired from 11 years as a paralegal at the Corporation Counsel Office in Portland's City Hall, where I drafted contract, licenses, easements and more for legal review; drafted council orders, agendas, minutes for council meetings and council committee; amended city code; recorded innumerable deeds, easements, title affidavits, etc.; and assisted in safety procedures for a public building and health incentives for city employees. In 2011 and 2012 I undertook a project as a ghostwriter for a book about a man named Jack Gibson who made his fortune paving the roads of Maine. I also worked on other writing projects. In 2010 and 2011, I worked as a trust and estate paralegal in a boutique law firm in Portland, Maine, filing applications for probate, arranging appraisals on assets and collecting investment information, and preparing estate tax returns and estate and trust income tax returns. I worked at Verrill Dana, LLP, when the law office closed to assist in the process of contacting former clients and arranging the transfer of their files and original documents.Prior to my work as a paralegal, I was a Legal Proofreader at the Office of the Revisor of Statutes in the State House in Augusta, Maine. This wonderful experience with a ferociously intelligent group of people challenged us to make proposed legislation consistent and error-free.As a freelance writer, I wrote a weekly column for more than six years as a restaurant reviewer in the Maine Sunday Telegram. In April 2022, a review of a rooftop bar appeared under my byline in Portland Magazine. I have completed multiple updates of Maine, An Explorer's Guide, published by W.W. Norton. Original guides include Chow Maine, A Guide to the Best Restaurants in Maine, and a guide about Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
