A tale of two passions. I began college steeped in math and science. It took several years (and a thunderstorm) to find my true passion for storytelling beneath the analytic practicality of science. When I finished my education (if it is ever truly finished), it was as a writer, both of the practical and the fantastic. The practical side of my writing found a home at Central New Mexico Community College where I also discovered a passion for teaching. As an English tutor, my greatest thrill is watching a student find their own voice. As a measurable accomplishment this may seem weak, but as a memorable one, it is priceless. As an online instructor of business writing for BYU-Idaho, I look for the same same light-bulb moments with business students from around the world. I continue to write fiction, particularly for young adults and middle grade readers and am a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. One of my works-in-progress won the Norma Fox Mazer scholarship at the Vermont College of Fine Arts.When I am not interacting with students or creating new worlds, I enjoy biking, camping and playing board games (Settlers anyone?)
