Stichting CAN werd in 2015 opgericht om kunst, wetenschap en ondernemerschap in te zetten voor kantelprocessen in de wijken waarbij jongeren in principe centraal staan. Jongeren zijn de spil in de wijk: zij zoeken naar verandering, perspectief en nieuwe wegen. Zij vertegenwoordigen beloftes voor de toekomst. Vanuit jongeren kom je vanzelf ook bij de ouders en aanverwanten, en veel jongeren in onze wijken worden ook vroeg ouders. Aanvankelijk was stichting CAN slapende, maar is sinds mei 2019 actief en nu gevestigd in Delfshaven (kantooradres). Het leidende principe voor onze organisatie laat zich het beste uitdrukken met dit citaat van Nina Simon (The Art of Relevance): “Once we’ve identified assets and needs, we seek out collaborators and project ideas. We don’t start with the project idea and parachute in. We start with the community and build to projects.”

Operating from the former bathhouse at the heart of the monumental Justus van Effen complex in Rotterdam (NL), A Tale of a Tub stimulates new developments in contemporary art and explores their meaning within the realm of art and beyond. A Tale of a Tub offers a testing ground for ideas stemming from the practices of artists, curators and theorists. A Tale of a Tub was founded by Nathanja van Dijk and Suzanne Wallinga and is run in partnership with Carolyn H Drake. Taking their academic backgrounds as a departure point the curators commit to give contemporary art in the Netherlands new impulses whilst pursuing collaborations with initiatives abroad.www.a-tub.org

NEW URBAN DYNAMICS'Binnen ‘New Urban Dynamics’ staat de pluriformiteit van de samenleving centraal. Je verdiept je in de gewaarwordingen en gedragingen van (groepen van) mensen die zich in hun grootstedelijke context als ‘plaatselijke wereldburgers’ manifesteren. De aandacht gaat daarbij vooral uit naar de transformatie van bestaande patronen naar nieuwe uitingen en leefstijlen en de spanning die dat met zich meebrengt. Ook de invloed van stedelijke factoren en trends binnen de popcultuur, beeldcultuur en straatcultuur daarop hebben komen aan bod.Steden als Rotterdam, Londen, Istanbul, New York en Hongkong herbergen verschillende gedeterritorialiseerde bewoners. Zij onderhouden hybride allianties en koesteren breekbare loyaliteiten. In de minor richt je als creatief professional de aandacht op de inventieve manier waarop deze groepen zich op verschillende terreinen (religie, kunst, leefpatroon) manifesteren in de stedelijke omgeving.De minor ‘New Urban Dynamics’ behandelt dit vraagstuk aan de hand van een aantal contrasten en bekijkt het vanuit verschillende niveaus. Van mondiaal tot lokaal niveau, van corporate tot menselijk niveau, van identiteitsbepaling tot identiteitsontkenning en van theoretisch tot praktijkgericht niveau. En beweegt zich tussen ‘hier’ en ‘daar’, ‘dichtbij’ en ‘ver weg’, ‘samen en verdeeld’, ‘wij en zij’ en ‘lage’ en ‘hoge’ cultuur. Door je vanuit deze niveau’s en aan de hand van de contrasten met dit vraagstuk van culturele diversiteit en de daarmee samenhangende stedelijke dynamiek bezig te houden leer je om je – als kunstenaar, ontwerper of docent – hier kritisch toe te verhouden, en leer je hier je eigen weg in te vinden. Daarnaast leer je ook marktgericht te denken in relatie tot het vraagstuk: welke potentiële afnemers zijn te onderkennen, en waarop is hun belangstelling gericht? Nancy Hoffmann, guest curator at Kunsthal KAdE Amersfoort for the exhibition 'Who More Sci-fi Than Us' from May 26th to August 26th. The exhibition is showing work of over 35 contemporary artists from the Caribbean region. Hoffmann: "The aim is not to give a complete overview of the Caribbean art scene or, for that matter, even to give an inclusive image of that region. Art-S-Cool is a wonderful new initiative located in the Dutch city of Den Haag. Art-S-Cool concentrates itself on youngsters as well as their families in neighborhoods of the city who's inhabitants are mainly immigrants from all parts of the world. By giving them the change to develop their creative talents and give way to their unrestrained imagination we try to hand out tools for empowerment and give Dutch society a peak into the cultural richness that is among us...

The 7hills foundation, founded in 2009, pursues that: Freedom in all aspects of life, and reachable for everyone, presented by means of (fine) art, music and film. A selection of art will be brought to the western public from other types of multi-cultural, open minded and historical cities like Istanbul, Casablanca and Tel Aviv, independent of any worldly belief. Enrichened and strengthened by their own backgrounds and experiences, Sinan and Ipek, the founders of 7hills foundation, have created a unique artistic and creative link between Turkey and the Netherlands.Turkey is Europe's gate to the Middle East and is a medium between both worlds. Turks can therefore adapt themselves easily between both cultures thus fulfilling its prophecy of being the center of both worlds. Guided by their passion and their desire to change something, the 7hills foundation aims to look beyond existing prejudices in order to find and display the true nature of people via art, music and film from Eastern-mediteranean and Middle-eastern countries. For Ipek and Sinan, collaborating with both sides of the continent through means of art will increase general understanding and make people more aware of each others' feelings. Curacao Center for Contemporary Art, situated on - what is currently - the main island of the Dutch Antilles, is a platform for contemporary art of which I was one of the co-founders - together with Tirzo Martha and David Bade (visual artists). The institute gives the best possible opportunities to young talents of Curacao and to other islands - accompanying them to professional art schools and applied arts schools in The Netherlands or the Caribbean region. Furthermore we have two Artist in Residency Programmes, one international (IPS) and one national program (AiR through the Dutch Fonds BKVB)...
