While hiking on a mountaintop in New Zealand I had an epiphany that it was time for a career change – to leave my clinical practice as a nurse practitioner and pursue writing a book with my husband Dr Robert Kushner (www.drrobertkushner.com). Our third book, Six Factors to Fit: Weight Loss that Works for You!, was just published by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in November, 2019. It's a personalized and novel way of tackling weight that starts with YOU: your lifestyle, your habits, your mindset. Instead of working as a nurse practitioner helping patients manage their chronic health conditions and writing staff education policies, procedures and newsletters, I shifted my attention to writing proposals, getting an agent, securing publishing contracts, writing health content for a weight loss website and writing books. Through my work I’ve been able to combine my 2 life passions–health writing and spreading the word about the power of a healthy lifestyle.
