While working in the medical field, my first experiences were with patients in a hospital setting. Learning compassion for those who were in less than pleasant surroundings, helped develop skills associated with patient care. As a phlebotomist, I would offer support to those who were anxious and my proficiency at drawing blood and starting I.V.s allowed me to train new staff. I wrote procedures for laboratory testing, managed the Out Patient Laboratory at Beebe Medical Center and worked in various areas of the laboratory as a technician. I performed routing lab tests but was also responsible for quality control in those departments. I possessed excellent clinical laboratory skills, with commended performance conducting/analyzing laboratory assays and resolving complex clinical and instrument problems. As a medical technologist and later Assistant Supervisor for the Blood Bank of Delaware, I performed accurate, reliable, diligent work and focused on the timely, quality completion of all lab procedures.These skills allowed me to become a more focused, organized person with an ability to manage and delegate staff for a more efficient work environment. Upon leaving the medical field and entering education, I have used these abilities to transition into working with students with emotional disturbances. Organization, quick response to serious situations and the ability to sense a change in behavior or mood, are imperative in working with students in this demographic. Challenging situations are not a deterrent to me and I enjoy working with those who need support.

  I spent over 30 years in the medical field as a Medical Technologist with a strong background in Blood Banking, Hematology and Biology. After retiring from the Blood Bank of Delmarva (Delaware) I found myself looking at other interests. Working with children with behavior issues seemed to be my forte. I started as an Intervention Specialist at North Laurel Elementary and when we moved to Maryland, I found a position within the Special Ed department working with Emotionally Disabled High School Students. I plan to retire this June after spending the last 10 years in this area.
