Keyword: Stress Granules; Anticarcirogen drugs • Co-authored poster presented by teammates at XXXVIII Annual Reunion of Society of Biochemical and Molecular Biology of Chile (SBBM)• Techniques used: RNA extraction and purification, Cloning, PCR, SDS- PAGE, Western Blot, Cell culture, transfection, Indirect Immunofluorescence (IFI), Proximity Ligation Assay (PLA), Bradford Protein Assay, Flow Cytometry and Confocal Microscopy.

• Learned about research projects in the lab and read research articles to strengthen understanding about the regulation of defense-related gene expression in plants, specifically WRKY70, TGA1/TGA4 and SARD1/CBP60g • Goal: To identify the relation between these transcription factors using the model organism Arabidopsis thaliana.• Techniques used: Collection of seeds, and seeding, transplanting, printing leaves on FTA membranes, PCR to confirm the genotypes of the mutants, plant infection with pathogens, gel preparation, Northern blot, Western blot, protein preparation, DNA recovery, plasmid recovery, and more.• Developed observation, critical thinking, and lab notebook note taking skills.

• Assisted graduate students carrying out ongoing research activities in genetic analysis of plant defence against microbial pathogens. • Tasks: preparation of growth media, autoclave sterilization of glassware and plastic consumables, assisting graduate students in analyzing plant genotypes by PCR, making plasmid constructs.• Gained research experience in an active research lab and an understanding about the process of biological research, which cannot be acquired from attending classes.• Worked in an open lab environment that encouraged students from different labs interact with each other.

Following the theme "Building Bridges, mobilizing knowledge", the second annual colloquium was successfully a platform for strategic alliances, in which interdisciplinary topics for Chile and Canada were discussed to promote collaboration in areas of mutual interest for both countries. http://coloquio.redicec.com/coloquio-2014/programa/
