I have moved over to the fast-paced world of online education! I am teaching US History to 11th graders and loving every minute of it. The job is fast-paced and exciting. I grade, manage and facilitate over 200 students.

After 32 years in the classroom I retired and moved on to my next adventure. During the 2014-2015 school year I worked as a substitute in Leander ISD, both in single positions and long-term positions. In taking on these challenges I realized that I truly love the art of teaching and don't want to leave it. I love to connect to my students and help them discover their strengths. It has been a very rewarding year. I am looking forward to more and more challenges to come.

Running Brushy Middle School

I have worked at Running Brushy Middle School since it opened in 1999. I have worked at Leander Middle School, Giddens Sixth Grade Center, and Leander Junior High.In my capacity as a social studies teacher I design and implement multifaceted lessons for all levels, including Special Education, On-level and Advanced students. I have created multiple DBQ lessons in preparation for Advanced Placement tests. I coordinate lessons amongst my colleagues both in the building and across the district. I facilitate the interchange of lessons based on best practices.I have brought technology into the classroom, designing lessons for students that involve multiple methods of technology integration. As a member of my district's Educate Academy I brought technology into the classroom, utilizing both the Ipad and laptops in curriculum design. I currently utilize social media to communicate with my students. I have been both Department Head and Team Leader for many years. As Team Leader I coordinated schedules, called and led meetings with parents and colleagues, organized team events, handled all budget issues, facilitated curriculum discussions across disciplines, and served as a liaison between my team and the administration. As a Department Head I carried out the above tasks in addition to coordinating curriculum vertically and horizontally across the district. I have served as a mentor, both formally and informally for the last 15 years. I have served as the Lead Mentor for the past 2 years, coordinating peer coaching meetings between mentors and "mentees", observing new teachers and offering advice and support as needed.

Houston, Texas Area

I taught reading and writing to students from inner-city Houston. As a new teacher I learned quickly how to communicate effectively with parents to ensure the success of my reluctant learners. Each year we wrote plays and short stories which we performed for the other students. I was active in the school spirit club and organized the end-of-the-year honors assembly each year.
