Nursing Philosophy:It is important to understand the interrelationship of the components of the nursing metaparadigm: human beings, health, environment, and nursing. Human beings are the targets of our care and includes families; the environment impact's health and well-being; promoting health is what nurses do, and nursing is the interaction/relationship developed with those we care for. The more we know about the patient the more targeted our interventions can be. Watsons philosophy is the one that relates to my philosophy of nursing. In her work, “The Philosophy and Science of Caring”, Watson called for a return to the earlier values of nursing and emphasized the caring aspects (Chitty & Black, 2011, p. 309). It can be easy to lose the caring aspect of nursing due to increased patient load and technological advances. Chantal Cara (2003), states that caring values are what take nursing from “just a job to a gratifying profession (p. 51).” Chantal points out that these values are essential to the nurses health and providing meaning to what we do. Watsons key points are: a. the carative factors, b. the transpersonal caring relationship, and c. the occasion/caring moment (Chantal, Cara, 2003, p.51). As explained by Chantal (2003, pp.51-52), the carative factors are guides for nursing to honor the human dimension of our work; transpersonal caring goes beyond the objective assessment, it protects, enhances and preserves the patients dignity, humanity, wholeness and inner harmony; and the caring occasion/moment is the point where the caregiver (nurse) and the one being cared for are influenced by this caring moment.Chantal, C. CurrentMy role as lung navigator is to be a patient educator and care navigator to improve the cancer experience for each patient. I am a support system for the patient and their family at a critical time - after a cancer diagnosis and through treatment. Prior to a cancer diagnosis I am there to navigate the patient to medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgery and other testing. As a navigator I make sure patients understand what happens next and that the treatment process goes smoothly. My responsibility is to build the program for Mercy Anderson and Mercy Clermont.

As a nurse educator with Quintiles my role was to educate doctors, nurses, medical assistants, and dialysis techs on the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia and to a new iron product called Feraheme. I strategically worked with the field force (sales specialists and regional sales manager) to target key accounts and I supported the top sales territory in the country. I promoted the use of Feraheme in CKD clinics, dialysis units, oncology clinics, and outpatient infusion centers by focusing on the benefits and features the drug provides to the healthcare professional and the patient. I provided exceptional customer service to those accounts using the product by providing education to new staff, reviewing/replenishing patient educational material and, if requested, would be on site when the drug was administered for the first time.
