Department Manager Pediatric Acute Care And Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
Walnut Creek, Ca, Us
The pediatric unit at John Muir Medical Center (JMMC) in Walnut Creek, CA is a 16 bed unit that admits patients from birth to 18 years of age. The LPCH pediatric hospitalists cover this unit primarily in conjunction with community pediatricians and admit patients from the emergency department, transfers from outside hospitals, and direct admissions from various community pediatricians. We care for a variety of common diagnoses such as hyperbilirubinemia, pneumonia, asthma, bronchiolitis, and bone and soft tissue infections. Additionally we have several LPCH affiliated medical and surgical subspecialists who admit their patients to the pediatric floor that our hospitalists co-manage. The PICU is designed to allow health care providers to care for sick and injured children ages 0 to 18. These experts will be able to treat a wide range of conditions, such as congenital heart and neurological disorders, scoliosis, diabetes and respiratory problems. That care is enhanced by teams that specialize in diagnosing and managing children with life-threatening, critical illnesses. The structure of the new inpatient unit includes eight private rooms adjacent to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and pediatric units. Each room is structured to accommodate parents and family staying overnight. We embrace and support a family-centered approach to enhance the patient care experience and recognize that in order to treat the child, we must treat the family as a unit. We willingly and actively seek parent and caregiver feedback as we partner with them in the planning of their child's care. "We Listen, We explain."
