KHI is a non-profit organization whose mission is "Informing Policy, Improving Health." As the sole contract administrator, I prepare cost-budgets and oversee the RFP submission process with national leaders such as Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and The Pew Charitable Trusts all the way down to local and state entities. I review the Master Contractor Agreements and Statement of Works, highlight the risks to management, negotiate the award and then monitor its progress. I implemented a project management tracking system to not only highlight the terms of the agreement, but track the upcoming deliverables and review on a monthly basis the actuals against the budget. It is a rewarding job to be a part of the conversation with the Kansas legislature to improve the health of Kansans.

The Kansas Bioscience Authority (KBA) was created by the Kansas Economic Growth Act of 2004 with the sole purpose of advancing Kansas’ leadership in bioscience. The $581 million initiative is designed to:•Build world-class research capacity;•Foster the formation and growth of bioscience startups;•Support expansion of the state’s bioscience clusters; and•Facilitate industrial expansion and attraction.As the sole contract and grant administrator, I oversaw the granting process of over $300 million grants from Board approval to issuing and negotiating the grant to monitoring their milestones and approving their invoices. I was also tracked on a monthly basis our cash flow from what was committed to "when" the payments would be made. It was an exciting program that helped spur on the economic growth of the bioscience industry within the state of Kansas.

My husband owned Alexander Construction, Inc. (residential) and Bison Park Development, LLC (raw land development). The company grew substantially when Sprint was relocating all of their employees to the Sprint Campus. As a result, I left MRI to help him keep up with the demands including installing a new accounting system (BuildSoft), implement policies and procedures, negotiating better prices through and commitments with his subcontractors, obtaining permits to prepare the raw ground into a subdivision, selling his houses and obtaining $1.3 million dollars in tax credits from the State of Missouri.

Greater Los Angeles Area

When I started, the LACTC was in it's 3rd year of a 30 year project to install a light rail and heavy rail system to connect the greater Los Angeles and surrounding areas. The contracts we issued were hundreds of millions of dollars with numerous subcontracts. All funding needed city council approval with some even needing approval from the Mayor of Los Angeles. As a contract administrator, it was my role to issue the RFP's, submit the package to the city council for approval, issue the contract and subcontract awards, monitor the project and then close it out. It was a fun and challenging job with lots of community relations as cities were reluctant to allow the subway to be dug underneath their city.
