About Nancy Turrell

Nancy moved to Martin County in 1989 to serve as campaign director for United Way of Martin County. In 1996, she elected to take a position as fund development director for New Horizons of the Treasure Coast while pursuing a Masters Degree in Philanthropy & Development. She graduated in May 1999 with the masters degree which complements her undergraduate degree in marketing from New York University, and accepted the executive director position for the Arts Council of Martin County. In service to her community, Nancy is a past president of both the Association of Fund Raising Professionals and the Treasure Coast Planned Giving Council, past chair of the Martin County Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, board member of the South Florida Cultural Consortium, and a graduate of LEADERship Martin County. Nancy and her husband reside in downtown Stuart and own a business, Brewing Tools, which makes the BeerBox® for storing and sharing homebrewed beer.

Nancy Turrell has served as the executive director for the Arts Council of Martin County since April 1, 1999. During her tenure, she has had the opportunity to see many enhancements to the cultural community and to oversee a wide variety of projects that benefit the arts community. Among her credits are creating the MartinArts magazine, securing support for the first women’s donor circle in Martin County named “Women Supporting the Arts,” launching an innovative ecoart apprenticeship program, overseeing of the 2008 Arts & Economic Prosperity III report for Martin County, raising funds to allow for a renovation of the Court House Cultural Center galleries, and creating an active strategic planning process with meaningful board member engagement. With her leadership Council many projects have grown and improved, including ArtsFest an annual day festival created to celebrate the arts in our community and the Council’s role in fostering collaborative projects. New arts education projects have been launched including the debut in 2011 of a plein air arts day for advanced visual arts students in our high schools.
