I started working at Pet Valu as part of a job education and mentoring program, which included a 6 week work experience. I chose Pet Valu for my work experience because of my passion for animals and love of learning new things.As my work experience was coming to an end, the then manager spoke to her district manager about having me hired as a permanent employee, and I've now been working here as a paid employee since February 2018.In my time here I've learned a lot about:- The importance of excellent customer service- The value of being knowledgeable in the different areas and operations of your workplace- and how being willing to go out of your comfort zone, and going the extra mile can pay offWhen there was a change of staff, I was chosen to place and manage our outside purchases. I've definitely enjoyed mastering the challenge of predicting product sales trends, and learning how to place the perfect order so that nothing goes completely out of stock but we aren't overwhelmed by what we have on hand, either. For our customer's product isn't just "product". It's a part of what they use to care for their pets, their family members. Careful thought goes into choosing each treat, food, or toy they bring home to their pets. Being a part of ensuring that customer's preferred products are available, and being able to provide thoughtful customer service and great alternatives when we unfortunately don't have the product their looking for, is something I've taken a lot of pride in. It's always preferable to have exactly what the customer wants, but when it isn't possible, being knowledgeable in the vast array of products we carry is incredibly useful.I've learned a lot of valuable skills in my time working at Pet Valu, and I'm excited to put them to use in my next job.

While I volunteered at MCC I got to know a lot of really wonderful people. It was really uplifting to see so many people working together to make the store run as well as it does. Walking through the front of the store, or working with the ladies in the back, you would never expect that almost everyone there is working for free. Working with so many people who didn't need the satisfaction of a paycheck to do a good job was a really valuable experience, one that I'm always going to be grateful to have been a part of.At MCC I:-Worked independently and with other volunteers to dust and tidy shelves in household and jar/produce departments-Restocked shelves-Sorted for quality, and priced incoming donations for the jars/produce department-Communicated with volunteers about shared work responsibilities between departments
