I served as the Public Health Officer for El Dorado County, including during the COVID-19 pandemic. The county's public health department earned accreditation from the Public Health Accreditation Board(https://www.cdc.gov/publichealthgateway/accreditation/departments.html) under my leadership.

For much of my first five years as Public Health Officer, I was responsible both for health-officer duties and for leading the county's public health department. This was always too big a role for one person and, fortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic afforded me the opportunity to give the director's duties (administration of programs) to a newly hired full-time director.

SNHD is the local health district in Clark County, serving nearly 2 million people (>70% of the population of the State of Nevada).I oversaw the activities of the Office of Epidemiology. My team was responsible for epidemiology and biostatistics, program evaluation, disease-investigation, and outbreak response. During 2014-2015 I chaired the public health accreditation team that is responsible for the Community Health Assessment ("CHA").

In this position, reporting directly to the Chief Health Officer, I was responsible for planning, directing, managing, and overseeing the activities and operations of the Community Health Division, which consists of the Epidemiology, Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Emergency Medical Services and Trauma, Public Health Preparedness, Vital Statistics, and Informatics programs, as well as the Public Health Laboratory. I was responsible for overseeing the development and submission of the FY15 division budget and worked with program managers to cut hundreds of thousands of dollars from our budget while ours was the only SNHD division not to have layoffs.

Appointed to cover this period between Chief Health Officers.The Chief Health Officer leads the Southern Nevada Health District, which serves the population (of >2M people) of Clark County, NV, and is responsible for all four of the health district's divisions (Community Health, Environmental Health, Nursing, and Administration), along with an annual budget of >$60M.

See 'EIS Officer' description below for specific responsibilities.Tri-County Health Department is the largest local health department in Colorado, serving ~1.25 million people in 2011.As an EIS Officer, I worked within the division responsible for epidemiology and surveillance, communicable disease control, injury prevention, chronic disease prevention, health planning and program evaluation, grant-writing, publication, public relations and marketing, aging initiatives, and community outreach.

My original career pursuit was in the field of engineering. I was highly regarded for my performance of mechanical design and manufacturing engineering, supervision, and project management. Although I enjoyed working as an engineer, I changed course and pursued additional education in order to build a career in medicine and public health, a field that allows me to have a more direct influence on the well-being of people and society.
