Our proactive strategy of advance planning by- passes many of the roadblocks and pitfalls that prevent a successful transition for military families. LaunchPad is a transition sponsorship organization for honorably discharged service members that develops our veterans into America’s elite workforce and community leaders.

Built circa 1868, the house has been home to five generations of the Hunter Family, where we have lived, loved and laughed together on the front porch. Except for a tour in the Navy, Jim, the fourth of five children, worked the land all his life. In 1992, his niece, Nancy DeLaney Anderson and her husband Andy, moved back to the farm after retiring from the military to raise their four children. In 2001, the family placed the farm into the Catawba Lands Conservancy, a land trust that permanently protects it form development, preserving it for generations to come.Each spring, the surrounding communities eagerly await the ripening of the strawberry crop. The farm is noted for it's unusually sweet and delicious Pick-Your-Own strawberries. The picking season runs through late April through the end of May and is the site of much activity. Fall is especially busy as a new crop of strawberries are planted and pumpkins are harvested. Educational farm tours that include hayrides with stops at the milk barn, petting barn and pumpkin patch are the highlight of the fall season. Christmas comes early when the tree lot opens the day after Thanksgiving. Fresh cut NC Frazier Furs, greenery and wreaths are available. A horse-drawn wagon ride takes children of all ages to visit Santa at the barn.

Weddington is just across the creek from Charlotte. We are located in thefastest growing area, in one of the fastest growing counties, in one of the fastest growingstates in the country. As the farms began to disappear, and houses became our main crop,high performance cars replaced the slow moving tractors on our winding country roads, ourbiggest challenge was trying to maintain our small town rural atmosphere. Intense pressureto become an extension of Charlotte and massive traffic bought on by rapid development,threatened our quality of life. Weddington spearheaded the first of its kind, comprehensiveLocal Area Regional Transportation Plan in collaboration with surrounding municipalities.Our land use plan remains low density residential and promotes conservation of greenspace.

Performed in a wide variety of locations and specialties: small clinics, large medical centers, or if necessary, the battlefield as a trauma or hospice nurse. I have worn all the shoes and boots of a military family. I am the daughter of a Navyveteran, and served on active duty in the AF Reserve. With four young children at the time, Iwas called back to active duty in support of Desert Storm. I retired as a Lt. COL after 20 yearsof combined service. My husband, a retired AF fighter pilot, and I have served in peacetime and war time. I feel the sacrifice of military families as we have also had our children follow our footsteps going off to war.
